Portable Appliance Testing
The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations place a duty
on Employers to ensure that all work equipment is regularly inspected and maintained
in a fit state and good working order. It has now become a recognised practice to carryout Portable
Appliance Testing (P.A.T.) on all electrical equipment as a way of complying
with the Regulations. This testing covers all aspects of the equipment, from the
condition of the casing to the correct fuse rating.
It is not only construction sites where this is recognised as
good practice; office equipment, computers, fans, heaters and even toasters (if
used at work) should also be tested, in accordance with guidance published by
the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Section 4 of The Health & Safety at Work Act places a duty on those in control of premises to ensure they do not endanger those who
work within them; therefore landlords, hotels and businesses of any nature have a duty to maintain electrical equipment so that it does not cause harm to employees or visitors.

M.E.L. can
undertake PAT testing at your request using
the latest equipment operated by experienced operatives. We charge a fee of £65.00 + VAT for every hour spent at your premises
testing your equipment, whether this is your head office or a work site. A label
will be affixed to the item highlighting the test date, a written report will
then be produced listing the equipment tested together with the results, a copy
of which will be sent to you in the post the following day or by e-mail the
same day.
Recommended Test and Inspection Times:
110v Site Equipment - Every 3 months
240v Office Equipment - Annually
