Bereavement Awareness

A short course aimed at giving the carer an insight into their own feelings and emotions, and those of the relatives and friends when someone close to them dies.

Aim

To give the carer an insight into the meaning of the word 'bereavement', 'to be robbed'.  How it can affect us, the people in our care, their family and friends.

Objectives

By the end of the session the carer will be able to:

  • Explain that bereavement is not just the loss of a person
  • Explain how the carer can support the person that is facing their own death
  • Describe some of the feelings a bereaved person may experience
  • Describe some of the different cultural observances and requirements
  • Describe various ways a carer can show that a person was valued in life

Candidates receive a certificate on completion of the course.
