The
course covers the knowledge and practical skills required of an Appointed
Person under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (as
amended) 2006. The content is set by the Health and Safety Executive.
The
course will cover:
Definition
and aims of First Aid
Rules
and regulations, the first aid box, reporting and recording of accidents
Responsibilities
of the Appointed Person
Action
in Emergency (including personal safety)
Recovery
position
Resuscitation
including CPR
Unconsciousness
Shock
Heart
attack
Treatment
of burns, scalds and bleeds
Choking,
epilepsy and diabetes
This
is not a definitive list as other topics will be included at the discretion of
the tutor in collaboration with the candidates.
The
assessment for the Appointed Persons Course is on-going, the tutor must be
satisfied that the candidate is capable of safety carrying out the procedures
taught. Part of the criteria for passing the course is attendance
throughout the day, therefore the tutor has the right to not award a
certificate on the grounds of not completing the whole course. Successful
candidates will receive an HSE recognised certificate which is valid for three
years
