Fire Training for Care



Aim


The aim of this short course is to ensure that carers in Residential Care Homes comply with the minimum standards set down in the Care Standards Act 2000 in respect of fire training.  (Standard 38 of the National Minimum Standards for Older People).

 

Outline

  • Fire prevention measures
  • Fire protection arrangements
  • The importance of fire doors
  • Action to take if a fire is discovered
  • Evacuation procedures dealing with a person whose clothes are alight
  • The action to take if a kitchen fire occurs
  • Evacuation and escape procedure
  • The use of portable fire fighting equipment
  • Emergency fire plan
  • Training of residents, should it be applicable

A certificate of attendance outlining the content of the course is issued to those taking part.  Where possible, a fire evacuation is walked through.

 

This course follows the guidelines of The British Institute of Learning Disabilities and relates to the relevant Unit in the LDAF (Learning Disabilities Award Framework).
