Infection Control
|
Outline This course is intended to raise the awareness and to establish basic principles and practice at operator level with the intention of preventing the spread of infection through institutions by making the health care worker more aware. The fear of "catching" a life-threatening communicable disease whilst working has resulted in confusion and gross misunderstanding of the risks for transmission among carers. Education and training about the actual risks for disease transmission are the best weapons against fear and overwhelming concern. Many situations present the potential for the presence of infectious disease and proper precautions should be taken at all times. The infectious disease status of other persons is frequently unknown to employed personnel. Therefore it is essential that all care organisations establish protocols to prevent the transmission of infectious agents. This course will cover the basic knowledge required by carers and the accompanying handouts will give further information and act as reminders. It will also reinforce the need to follow the procedures that the care organisation may already have in place.
