 Overview

The course is concerned with the worker contributing to the protection of individuals from abuse.  It is designed for use in all settings, as abuse can occur in all care environments.

Contribution to protection from abuse is through minimising the levels of abuse within care environments, minimising the effects of abusive behaviour and monitoring individuals who are at risk from abuse, whether they are named individuals who have been designated 'at risk' or others.   Individuals at risk from abuse may be those abusing themselves, such as through the use of substances or self-harming behaviours, or those at risk from abuse by another.

The course aims to acknowledge the equality and diversity of people and their rights and responsibilities whilst acknowledging the often sensitive nature of information about which the care sector deals and the need for confidentiality required.

Who is this course aimed at?

The course is designed to be generally applicable across health and social care sector in all settings which care is provided.

Principles of good practice

A major focus is the promotion and support of people's rights and responsibilities in difficult situations and the promotion of confidentiality in such situations.  The need to balance tensions between individuals' rights to freedom of expression and freedom from abuse is key.
