Harness and Lanyard Inspections

Falls from height are one of the most common causes of major injuries in the workplace and the best way to prevent falls is with the right safety equipment.

Harnesses and lanyards go a long way to protecting employees if they do fall from height. They are life-saving equipment and should be treated as such.

Safety harnesses and lanyards need to be inspected on a regular basis. They should be inspected for the following reasons:

  1. Fit for user – the harness is fitted correctly according to the height and weight of the user
  2. Fit for purpose – the right type of harness is being used for the work carried out
  3. Safe and secure – that the user knows how to fasten the harness correctly.

There are a variety of harnesses available to buy. Before purchasing it is important to do your research and make sure the harness complies with safety standards.

Harnesses are used in high-risk environments and so should be checked often. We recommend conducting harness inspections at least once every six months. Regular training for harness users should also be provided.
